Tasting Notes

The 2022 Tapestry Paso Robles Red Blend has great color intensity, exhibiting an inky, saturated amethyst-burgundy color. The fragrant aromas leap from the glass with brambly character of wild blackberry, black plum, and black cherry accompanied by wildflower potpourri. On the palate, the layered flavors support the bouquet with rich, juicy notes of Bing cherry, cassis, black raspberry, and soft vanilla. This red is smooth and seamless with an incredibly approachable style that is mouth- pleasing and sumptuous.

Winemaking

Using a modern approach, the grapes were crushed and fermented an average of seven to ten days in stainless steel tanks. Pump-overs were gently performed three times a day to extract optimum color and tannin. In-tank fermentation allowed the acid profile of the wine to soften while maintaining the freshness and purity of fruit. A rigorous series of blending sessions were performed to evaluate, taste-test, and trial, to determine which lots would be selected to craft the final blend.

Vintage

The 2022 season in Paso Robles was more moderate. Bordeaux varieties ripened in normal progression, until a heat spell encouraged faster ripening near Labor Day. This created perfect picking conditions beginning in mid-September and continuing through October. The yield was comparable to typical vintages and will be known for its richness, complexity, and bright acidity. This is another wonderful vintage for the Paso Robles region.

Vineyard

Paso Robles is located between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California’s Central Coast. The region enjoys a greater day-to-night temperature swing than any other appellation in California. There is great diversity in the region, distinct microclimates, over 45 different soil types, and a long growing season. This makes Paso Robles an optimum region for producing premium wines, in particular Rhône varietals like Syrah (Shiraz), as well as Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. For this vintage, approximately 50% of the blend came from Paso’s Camatta Hills Vineyard, where limestone-rich soils provide water retention and good drainage, allowing the fruit to develop character and mineral distinctiveness. The other half came from a number of vineyards throughout Paso Robles. Sourcing from these diverse locations allows Tapestry winemakers incredible flexibility in selecting the ideal fruit to make this robust, structured, and juicy Red Blend.
