"An opulent yet tight cabernet, showing the blue fruit, black truffle and polished tannins that this region delivers. It’s full and layered with lots of different levels. Pretty finish. Nice balance here, but give it two to three years. Impressive now, though.” - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville was aged for 20 months in French oak, 75% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant scents of blueberry pie, Black Forest cake and blackcurrant jelly with suggestions of smoked meats and black olives. The full-bodied palate has a firm backbone of grainy tannins supporting the generous notions of baked black fruits with a lively lift of energy coming through on the finish. 234 cases were made.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate

“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Coombsville) emerges from a single block at Meteor. Rich and creamy, the 2017 marries fruit intensity with the savory and mineral quality that is typical here. Rose petal, gravel, mint, licorice and pomegranate all run through this super-expressive, punchy Napa Valley Cabernet. The purity of the flavors is just striking.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2021

Vintage

Overall, 2017 proved to be a slightly smaller yielding vintage but one of exceptional quality. A brief period of warm weather occurred during Labor Day weekend which accelerated the harvest in some areas. Temperatures subsided just when we needed and the fruit was allowed to mature and ripen perfectly on the vines before harvest officially began. Overall, a quick and intense harvest, with althea fruit picked within two to three weeks, but the quality of the vintage shows great flavor intensity, perfect ripening and maturity, lovely balance and complexity.
