The 2024 growing season began with abundant winter rains that replenished the soils and set the stage for healthy canopy development. Up to 21 inches of rainfall was observed, with the last storm landing in mid April. Temperatures remained mild through spring and early summer, followed by a two-week heat event starting in early July. The remainder of summer was marked by warm days coupled with cool evenings—a trend that led to optimal ripening and smaller berries with concentrated flavors. During the early phases of the harvest, conditions allowed the white grapes to reach peak maturation before picking. This Chardonnay comes from higher-elevation vineyards that are predominantly planted to soils of loam and limestone. We focus on sourcing Chardonnay fruit from specific sub-AVAs of Paso Robles with the right amount of degree growing days to maintain a pure varietal character. Each site has ultimately been selected for its ability to produce the DAOU style of Chardonnay, which combines rich Paso Robles flavors with fine acidity and elegance.
